Download FocusMe from focusme.com/download — the page automatically detects your platform. You can also download directly for a specific platform:

Windows

  1. Download and run the .exe installer — you may need to approve a User Account Control (UAC) prompt
  2. Follow the setup wizard and choose your installation directory (default: C:\Program Files\FocusMe)
  3. FocusMe launches automatically after installation
A non-admin installer is also available on the download page for users without administrator privileges.
FocusMe starts automatically and keeps itself running to enforce blocking. This is what makes the blocking tamper-resistant.
For the most accurate website blocking, install the FocusMe browser addon: The addon link automatically detects your browser. You can also install it later from Settings → Browsers, which lists a button for each browser found on your computer. The addon talks to the desktop app to detect and block websites in real time — see Browser Extension.

macOS

Two installer options are available on the download page:
  1. PKG installer (recommended) — double-click to run the guided installer
  2. DMG installer — drag FocusMe to your Applications folder
After installation:
  1. Launch FocusMe from Applications
  2. Grant Accessibility permissions when prompted — FocusMe uses this to read window titles
Skipping the Accessibility permission does not stop application blocking — rules that target a Process Name still work. What you lose is Window title matching and Enhanced Window Detection. To grant it later, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable FocusMe.

Supported Architectures

FocusMe ships as a universal binary — it runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) Macs.

Linux

  1. Download the .bin installer from focusme.com/download/linux
  2. Make it executable and run it:
    The installer elevates itself and asks for your password — there is no need to run it with sudo.
  3. FocusMe installs to /Applications/ and starts automatically on login
FocusMe on Linux requires X11 or Wayland. The application integrates with your desktop environment for system tray support.

First Launch

FocusMe opens its main window the first time it runs, and afterwards keeps running in the system tray. Click the tray icon to bring the window back at any time.

On the first launch you’ll be walked through three short screens:
  1. Choose your theme — pick Light or Dark. You can change this later in Settings.
  2. Quick Setup — a three-step setup that asks what you’re fighting and how strict to be, then builds a plan for each problem you picked. Click Start blocking to finish, or Skip setup if you’d rather start from the Plan Library or build a plan yourself.
  3. Login — the Welcome to FocusMe dialog asks you to log in or create an account. Logging in starts your free trial; if you already own a licence, it is activated automatically. Tick Save my login info so you don’t need to enter it again.

Quick Setup builds your first plans from two questions

While you are on a trial, the sidebar shows Login, Upgrade, and Activate, and a Free trial: N days remaining banner appears above your plans with an Upgrade link. Once you log in with a licence the banner disappears and the sidebar shows Logout instead.
Skipped the login? Click Login in the sidebar whenever you’re ready. Your plans stay exactly as they are.
