Commitment settings are the rules FocusMe support follows when you ask for an assisted stop. You set them in advance, while your head is clear, so a stop in a weak moment costs you something or takes time. They apply to all plans unless a plan has its own. Open Settings → Commitment (shown when you’re signed in), or Commitment settings in your account on focusme.com.
Stricter changes work at once. Easier changes wait 7 days, and you can cancel them until then. A lock that cannot be shortened can only be extended.

Choosing a level

Pick Gentle, Recommended or Strict to fill in a set of rules, or Custom for your own mix. Nothing applies until you click Save. FocusMe then shows what starts now and what starts in 7 days, and you confirm.

Who can approve a stop?

  • My partner or FocusMe support: either can approve a stop. Support follows the rules below.
  • Only my partner: your accountability partner approves by email or gives you a code. FocusMe support will not approve a stop. Needs a confirmed partner.

What holds you to your plans

For emergencies and mistakes

Rules for one plan

On the Plan Wizard’s How strict step, the Assisted stops row chooses Use my defaults or Custom rules for this plan. A plan can have its own Commitment fee, Wait, No stops until date and Lock-break fee. When one request covers several plans, the strictest rules apply.

Paying a fee

When a stop needs a fee, the request dialog offers to pay it. The payment page opens on focusme.com. Paying does not skip your wait, and FocusMe shows when your plans will stop. If you don’t pay, FocusMe support looks at your request. You can cancel during the wait and get your fee back. Once your plans have stopped, the fee is not refundable. If a paid request is denied, the payment is refunded. Commitment fees pay for the Assisted Stop service and the FocusMe team who run it.

When a stop request can’t be sent

If your settings rule out a stop (assisted stops switched off, a lock in force, or your limit used up), Get help with a plan says A stop request cannot be sent for this plan and why. Under Is something not working? you can still Report a fault, or Ask for a plan fix unless you chose No exceptions: my usual settings apply, and Ask my partner stays available when a partner can approve.

After an assisted stop

After an assisted stop, FocusMe may ask Would it help to make the next assisted stop a little harder? and suggest Light, Steady or Firm rules. Choose one and click Use this setup, or Not now. A setup only makes your rules stricter, never easier.
