How to Block All Websites but Allow Local Files in Browser

FocusMe can also block all websites while allowing local files to be opened using a browser (if the file type is allowed by the browser itself). Here’s how you can do it.

The first thing you do is either create a new plan or edit an existing one. To create a new plan, hit the “add plan” button on the upper right. To edit an existing plan, you can either right-click on the plan and select “Edit Plan” or hit the respective cog wheel icon on the right.

Type the name of the Focus plan (for editing existing plans, the name shows up here) then hit “Next”.

On the Websites page, select “Block All Websites”. Notice that the Blocklist tab would disappear, leaving the Allowlist tab. This is where you will add an item to allow local files. Click “Add Site”.

Go to the Custom tab and type in “file:///” (without the quotes). Make sure the type is set to “URL” then click “Done”.

Go through the rest of the pages as per your preferences, and that’s it! Run the plan and FocusMe will block any websites but will allow local files to be opened by your browser.
