How to Block a Folder in Windows Explorer or MacOS Finder

FocusMe can be used to block specific folder locations in Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Here’s how.

The first thing you do is either create a new plan or edit an existing one. To create a new plan, hit the “add plan” button on the upper right. To edit an existing plan, you can either right-click on the plan and select “Edit Plan” or hit the respective ellipsis on the right.

Type the name of the Focus plan (for editing existing plans, the name shows up here) then hit “Next”

You can skip the Websites page by clicking “Next”

The Blocklist tab in the Applications page (3/6) is where you add the folders you want to block. Click on “Add App”.

Go to the Custom tab and type in the address of the folder/s you wish to block. Make sure the type is set to “Folder Location”. Then click on “Done”.

Tip: You can press enter after each item if you want to add multiple items at once.

Your Applications page should look something like the example below. Click “Next” to go to the next page.

Go through the rest of the wizard following your preferences. Once finished, test out the plan by running it and then try to access a blocked folder. FocusMe should block them accordingly.

Note: FocusMe will also block sub-folders of a blocked folder.
